Publishing a new article in Joomla? Don’t forget these four fields – they are crucial for your visibility and how your article is shared.
1 The title
Your title is the first thing people see – in Google, on social media, and in your menu.
- Keep it clear and concise.
- Avoid “internal working titles” like Blog 12 or March Update.
- In Joomla, you can use “Menu Title” for a shorter version if needed.
2 Meta description
The meta description is the short piece of text that appears under your title in Google.
- Maximum of 155 characters.
- Write a catchy, clear sentence that sparks curiosity.
- Avoid just stacking keywords; write for people.
"A great article doesn’t start with the text, but with how you present it."
3 Open Graph description
Open Graph (OG) is used when someone shares your article on social media.
- Can be slightly longer than your meta description (200–300 characters).
- Speak directly to your reader and make it visual (“Discover the 5 steps to…”).
- Choose a suitable image as your OG image.
4 Schema.org data
Schema.org helps search engines understand what your article is about.
- In Joomla, you can use a plugin to set the type for each article (e.g., BlogPosting).
- Fill in fields like: headline, description, author, publication date.
- This improves your visibility in search results.
Extra tip
You don’t have to come up with everything yourself. With a smart prompt in ChatGPT, you can generate a meta description, OG description, and schema text in seconds, based on your article.
