Lately I hear it more and more often:
“Can’t you just build an entire website with AI these days?”
And to be honest: yes, there are AI tools that can write a short text, put together a layout, or even generate a complete website. Useful, certainly. But is it professional? Thoughtful? Suitable for your business? Usually not.
AI is fast. But it lacks feeling.
You can easily ask AI to:
- create a homepage structure,
- list suggested pages,
- come up with a business name,
- or even write something about yourself.
But AI knows nothing about you. It lacks your tone, your style, your vision.
And above all, it lacks feeling.
Good design is not about “something that works”. It is about something that feels right. In colour, atmosphere, structure and overall look.
And that does not come from a prompt, but from a conversation. From listening. From thinking along. From experience.
What I add (that AI does not)
I also use AI, as a source of inspiration or for a first draft. But that is where it stops. My work as a web designer and frontend developer is really about:
- Technical precision in Joomla & WordPress (YOOtheme & Divi)
- Aesthetics, typography, composition
- Translating a vague idea into a visually strong design
- Thinking along with entrepreneurs who do not yet have everything clear
- Bringing structure into chaos
- Designing with a clear goal: calm, overview and the right next step for your visitor
- Making sure your site truly fits you, and your audience
In short: AI is useful. But it is not a replacement for craftsmanship.
AI can speed things up, but it cannot feel your taste, your tone of voice or your visual identity.
Smart use: AI before we start working together
Want to start thinking about your website or branding? Then AI can be a helpful sparring partner. For example, to brainstorm about:
Business names
“I am starting a yoga practice for women 40+. Come up with 10 names that convey calm and strength.”
Website structure
“Give me an example structure for a rental website with a homepage, offer, about us and contact page.”
Style words
“Which style fits a coach who works with children and nature?”
First draft for your ‘About me’ page
“Write a first version of a personal introduction for a woman who moved to Spain and now builds websites.”
This gives you direction. And that helps me get to the core more quickly when we start working together.
AI is smart. But you are unique.
So do not let yourself be carried away by AI hype or promises of “a website in five minutes”.
You and your business are not a template. A website is not a quick trick. It is a translation of who you are and what you want to convey. And that takes more than a prompt.
