Whether you’re building a new website, doing it yourself, or regularly adding content: good organisation saves time, stress, and endless searching. Many people start enthusiastically, then lose track. These tips help you stay in control:
1 Create a consistent folder structure
For example: Projects > ClientName > Website, with separate folders for:
- Images
- Text
- Tech (logins, tracking codes, etc.)
- Quotes / invoices
- Notes or inspiration
2 Use clear, descriptive filenames
Choose logo_webteam4u_blue_2025.png over IMG_2398.png.
Optionally add a date or version number to avoid confusion.
3 Keep all content in one place
Already have copy or photos? Store them together. A shared Google Drive or Dropbox folder works well—also for collaborating with a web designer.
4 Track what’s still missing
Think: headshot, testimonials, high-resolution logo, social media links.
This way you won’t forget anything during the build.
5 Schedule a regular tidy-up
Just like at home, your digital space slowly clutters. Fifteen minutes once a month prevents chaos from creeping in.
6 Store key details safely—and in duplicate
Passwords, hosting and domain info belong in a password manager or encrypted note—plus a backup.
Organising isn’t a luxury — it’s the foundation of a smooth website process.
And you don’t need to make it perfect. Just start with step 1.
