When the Last Chiringuito Closes

Spain & Outdoor Living  | 10 October 2025

It feels almost like a ritual: when the last chiringuito closes its shutters, it truly feels like summer has come to an end.

This weekend it will happen. A long, warm season that seemed to pass so quickly.

Part of me finds it a little sad. No more long evenings at the beach, no more sunny breakfasts with coffee and toast.
The days are cooler, shorter, and the sea only invites shorter swims. Yet it still feels good to dive in, even for a moment.

And at the same time, a new rhythm arrives. Autumn and winter are for walking, for quiet mornings with clouds and sometimes sun, for moving on the beach without hurry. A different cadence, but one I look forward to as well.

This weekend there’s the marathon in Pineda. A touch of liveliness in the air, as if summer says goodbye one last time.
Then the calm will return, and I carry with me what the past months have given: warmth, movement, and the knowledge that every season has its own beauty.
