A different rhythm for a while

Life & Reflection | 03 June 2025

Early June.
I'm getting away for a bit.
Two and a half weeks, to be exact.

Not really a holiday.
But a break, nonetheless.
A different house, a new place, a different rhythm.

I'm house- and cat-sitting again in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
A beautiful seaside town, with that crescent-shaped bay that catches the light so well.
I've been there before — it feels familiar.
A Dutch-Chilean couple I met a few years ago asked if I’d come again.
And yes, I would.

In between work I’ve started gathering a few things.
Not so much clothes — that will be fine.
Sports gear, yes.
And somewhere there’s a swimsuit I haven’t seen in a while.

What matters most to me: my work setup.
My laptop, of course.
But also my large screen, keyboard, mouse, and all the right cables.
So I don’t have to drive back to Pineda halfway through. Luckily, I’m going by car, so I can bring plenty.

I’m also thinking of my yoga mat. They have a lovely garden.
In the mornings, near the Ermita de Sant Elm or just on the grass, I’d like to do some yoga sessions.

My notebook is coming.
So is my sketchbook.
And recently, I’ve enjoyed writing with a fountain pen — so I’ll bring ink too.

The pool is out of use this time — there was a leak.
A shame, but not a big deal.
Maybe I’ll go to the little beach at Cala del Vigatà, reached by a narrow path.
In winter, I often went there, but getting into the water wasn’t an option — too many waves and only stones along the shore.
Now it’s June.
Summer is different. Calmer. More inviting.
Maybe I’ll give it a try this time.

What I will miss a little is this place right here.
The beach I sit at now.
The sea that looks different every morning.
The space to walk — endlessly, if you want.

You can walk along the boulevard in Sant Feliu too, but it’s shorter.
And from their house — which is close to the chapel Ermita de Sant Elm — you need to walk down.
And back up again.

Still, it's good to get away for a while.
To step outside my usual rhythm.
To let the days unfold as they come.
Maybe I’ll go on little outings, maybe I’ll just stay close to home.
I'll probably ask ChatGPT later for nearby walking tips.

For now, all is well.

The sun, the sea, and the anticipation of a different view.
